ABILENE -- Central Arkansas wrapped up a three-game Southland Conference softball series sweep of ACU with a 15-2 win Saturday afternoon at Poly Wells Field.
The win pushes the Bears to 16-10 overall and 4-2 in the conference, while the Wildcats finish the weekend at 6-18 and 2-4. ACU will return to action next weekend in Hammond, La., when it takes on Southeastern Louisiana in a three-game Southland Conference set.
As they did in a Friday evening doubleheader sweep, the Bears broke on top early with three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by
Shaylee Alani leading off the frame.
The Bears put the game away in the top of the fourth, however, with seven runs on five hits, including a pair of doubles from Jaylee Engelkes, the second of which drove in a pair of runs. Jenna Wildeman added a two-run single and Mary Kate Brown a two-run double for the Bears.
UCA pitcher Kayla Beaver made all that offense stand up, allowing just six hits and two runs over five complete innings in the run-rule victory.
Val Rudd had a pair of hits for ACU, including a triple, while
Donelle Johnson,
Kayla Keeling and
Avery Miloch each contributed a hit for the Wildcats.
