Wildcats host Tarleton in home opener

ABILENE, Texas – ACU will finally get the chance to play at home on Wednesday night when they host Tarleton at 6 p.m. The team was schedule to open the season at home with a tournament, but the inclement weather that hit Texas forced the Wildcats to play their first games in El Paso. Before scheduling this single home game, ACU was slated to play their first 20 games on the road. In their first 12, the team has gone 3-9 against tough competition.

Last Time Out

WILDCATS STORYLINES

  • After some offensive struggles early last week against Texas State and UNT, the Wildcats turned it around in Houston. The team put up at least five runs in every game and hit .283 as a team for the weekend.
  • The Wildcats had a couple games for the record books last weekend as they stole seven bases in a game at Texas Southern, which is the second most in game in the DI-era. The team also drew seven walks at Houston which ties for the fifth most by a team in the DI-era. 
  • ACU has totaled 15 homerun through 12 games, which already surpasses they 11 they hit in 2020 in 24 total games.
  • Val Rudd and Paige Harris both hit their first-career homeruns in the first game of the doubleheader at Houston.
  • ACU's pitching has struggled to start the season, as a team they sit at an 8.54 ERA. Riley White leads the team with a 7.14 ERA and two wins on the season.

SCOUTING THE TEXANS (5-7)

  • Tarleton State sits at 5-7 through their first 12 games, including going 3-3 against Southland competition. The team has wins over SFA and UIW.
  • The Texans are hitting .270 as a team with Katy Schaefer leading the way at .444 with four extra-base hits. 
  • Similar to ACU, Tarleton has also faced Oklahoma and Houston on the season, they played each team once losing in five innings each time. 
  • Julia Wernet leads the Texan pitching staff with a 4.30 ERA and a 4-2 record.
