Wildcats and Bearkats meet in quick turnaround game Tuesday

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Wildcat soccer team has a very quick turnaround after a pair of games this weekend. The team continue its road trip with a date with the Sam Houston Bearkats on Tuesday, March 16 at 1 p.m. ACU (6-5-1, 2-3-0 SLC) was supposed to play Sam Houston back on Feb. 28, but the game was moved due to COVID-19. It opens a three-game week for the Wildcats, who will head back on the road for a date with Dallas Baptist on Saturday, March 20.

SERIES HISTORY

ACU leads the all-time series with the Bearkats 5-1-1, and have won two in a row in the series. The Wildcats won a 1-0 game last season in Abilene, and defeated SHSU 3-0 in Huntsville in 2018. ACU is 3-0 all-time in Huntsville.

ACU STORYLINES

  • GETTING THEIR LOOKS: ACU ranks No. 23 in the country this season in shot attempts per game. The Wildcats average 17.2 shot attempts each night, and 7.4 of those are on frame per game, the third-highest average in the Southland. ACU is also getting corner kicks at a high rate, averaging 6.6 corner per game, the 25th highest mark in the country and the most in the league.
  • CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Christina Arteaga ranks second in ACU's history in career points with 80 and career goals with 33, and is in sole possession of first place in career shots on goal with 138 and career shots with 288. Arteaga scored against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on a penalty kick.
  • MILESTONE: Head coach Casey Wilson, in the midst of his 14th season as the leader of the 'Cats, won his 150th game last Sunday against McNeese. Wilson sits at 151-96-22 in his tenure as the only coach in program history.
  • SMITH SETTING RECORDS: Senior Erin Smith moved into third in ACU history with 160 career saves after having 14 over the weekend, and is third in wins with 21. Smith has started the second-most games in the programs history with 40 as well.

SCOUTING SAM HOUSTON (1-3-1, 1-3-1 SLC)

  • The Bearkats did not play in the fall and are playing a strictly Southland-only schedule this spring. Sam Houston is coming off two losses over the weekend to Central Arkansas and UIW, 4-2 and 3-2, respectfully.
  • SHSU has scored eight goals in the last three games, and is averaging nearly two scores per game this season.
