MBB faces quick turnaround to play the Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After being postponed twice, the Wildcats and Islanders are finally getting to play their first of two matchups on the season. Due to limited dates open for play, a Monday night game makes for a quick turnaround for both teams. The Wildcats are coming off a win at Lamar on Saturday night while the Islanders fell to UIW at home on Saturday. Corpus has had struggles with postponements due to COVID and with that inconsistent schedule they come into the game with an 0-6 record in conference play, but it will still be a tough test for ACU tomorrow night.

FOLLOW THE GAME

SERIES HISTORY

The Wildcats are currently on a four-game winning streak against the Islanders, but prior to that streak they had never won against the Islanders. Corpus holds a 9-4 record in the series since ACU joined the Southland. Of ACU's four wins they have earned two on the road and will be looking for their third win in the American Bank Center.

ACU STORYLINES

  • ACU has been nothing but consistent since getting into conference play, but have had much more success at home. They had their first complete road win at Lamar, winning by 15 and forcing 19 turnovers.
  • The team still ranks first nationally in turnover margin (+8.0) and turnovers forced (21.61).
  • Coryon Mason had a solid night against Lamar in his second game back from injury. The senior scored 13 points with four rebounds and a steal in 31 minutes.
  • Kolton Kohl continues his consistent play notching his sixth-straight double-digit scoring game at Lamar with 12 points.
  • Clay Gayman is coming off a 17-point performance where he went 6-9 from the field and 3-5 from three.
  • The matchup is favorable for ACU as the Islanders have the second most turnovers in the conference and struggle to score.

SCOUTING AMCC (3-12, 0-6 SLC)

  • The Islanders have had two cancellations and six postponements on their season so far. Due to those postponements, they are in a stretch of playing eight games over two weeks.
  • The team has five players averaging nine points per game, and three more averaging seven or more per game.
  • While they have a balanced scoring attack, they have had trouble putting points on the board, averaging just 63.1 ppg.
  • The Islanders have three wins on the season, but have yet to win against a DI opponent.
