ABILENE - In what may be the fastest match in ACU women's tennis history at one hour and 45 minutes, the Wildcats Saturday blanked Texas Permian Basin 7-0 on a blustery morning at the Eager Tennis Center.
The Wildcats surrendered all of five points in doubles, winning 6-0 at No. 2 and 6-2. The No. 1 match was left unfinished with the Wildcats' duo of
Claire Fisher and
Ileana Mocciola leading 4-3.
ACU continued its dominance in singles with six shutout sets along the way. Sophomore
Andrea Guerrero captured the elusive double bagel at the No. 6 line, blanking Sophia Rishmagui, 6-0, 6-0.
"Things were much better today on the energy side," said Director of Tennis Juan Nunez. "It certainly wasn't easy today, the conditions were tough and it was cold and windy, but we didn't let any of that bother us and we took care of another feisty UTPB team. It was a confident win and we took care of business. It was fun to see us do that."
The Wildcats return to action Valentine's Day, Sunday, Feb. 14 for a Lubbock-based doubleheader vs. Texas Tech and New Mexico.
