Soccer returns to the pitch Friday after long break

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wildcat soccer team opened the spring 2-0 in early February, but after dealing with COVID-19 and a winter snowstorm in Texas, it will have been 19 days in between games for the program. ACU (4-2-1) will return to the pitch on Friday, Feb. 26 for the conference opener at SFA at 7 p.m., but will not play the Sunday match at Sam Houston due to COVID-19 issues with the Bearkat program.

The game in Huntsville has officially been postponed to Tuesday, March 16 at 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

The series is deadlocked at 4-4-2 with the Ladyjacks, and the teams tied 1-1 in Nacogdoches last season. SFA won the first four in the series, but the Wildcats are 4-0-2 since 2017 in the series. ACU has only allowed two goals to SFA since 2017.

ACU STORYLINES

  • A 2-0 OPENING WEEKEND: ACU earned two overtime wins against West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian on the road to open the spring on Feb. 5 & 7. Natalie Wodka scored both game-winners in the extra period, and ACU moved to 4-2-1 on the season after a 2-2-1 fall.
  • CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Christina Arteaga ranks second in ACU's history in career points with 74, career goals with 30, and career shots on goal with 126. Arteaga is No. 1 in Wildcat history in career shot attempts with 269.
  • CLOSING IN: Head coach Casey Wilson is in the midst of his 14th season as the leader of the 'Cats, and is one win away from 150. Wilson sits at 149-94-22 in his tenure as the only coach in program history.
  • WODKA DOMINATES: Natalie Wodka was named the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals, two of which were game-winners in overtime. She scored the game-winning goal against West Texas A&M in the first minute of overtime, and scored the game-winning goal in the 99' against Lubbock Christian to complete the comeback, 3-2. Her first goal against LCU got ACU on the board and began the comeback. Wodka tallied five shot attempts, placing three on goal, all of which scored.

SCOUTING SFA (3-2-2)

  • The Ladyjacks are coming off a win over Central Arkansas on Feb. 12, and takes the pitch for the first time in 14 days.
  • Katelyn Termini and Carli Arthurs each have a team-high four goals scored, and Termini has two assists for a team-best 10 points.
  • Madeline Talbot has started seven times in net, and has allowed six goals and tallied 36 saves.
