Choe leads Wildcats at JRI with 2-under 214

CHOUDRANT, La. -- Junior Brian Choe led Abilene Christian Golf at its first tournament of the fall season, finishing tied for seventh place with a 2-under 214 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech.

Choe carded a 1-under 71 Sunday, a 2-over 73 Monday and a 2-under 70 Tuesday to tie South Alabama's Kyle Robinson, Texas State's Fabian Sunden, and Little Rock's Anton Albers. Choe recorded 13 birdies, tied for the second most among 73 competitors, and was one of two Wildcats to register an eagle along with Chase Allison. Choe's eagle was on Sunday as he finished the par-five 528-yard second hole with a three.

Choe had three additional birdies Sunday, six on Monday, and four Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club.

Allison - a senior from Robinson, Texas - had the Wildcats' lowest round of the tournament as he finished Monday's action with an eagle and a 4-under 68. But that effort was bookended by a pair of 4-over 76s, which dropped him into a tie for 25th at 4-over 220.

The Wildcats placed eighth as a team at 11-over 875 (296, 287, 292), finishing three strokes behind Lamar but 20 ahead of Central Arkansas and 51 ahead of Houston Baptist.

No. 44 UAB won the team title with a 21-under 843 led by medalist Nick Robillard (9-under 207). Four members of the Blazers finished among the top seven.

ACU returns to action next month for the Arkansas State-hosted Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate.
