Box Score 1 ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis (7-8) received a three-set win at No. 5 singles from junior
Ileana Mocciola to defeat Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, 4-3, Sunday at the Schlief Complex. The Wildcats are now 3-1 in league play, and will resume conference action a week from today at Incarnate Word.
The Wildcats have now won their last five matches in the series vs. the Ladyjacks dating back to 2016.
Today's dual started with a sweep of doubles as the Wildcats' No. 1 (
Sarah Adams and
Nini Memishishi) and 3 duos (
Claire Fisher and
Allison Stewart) each doubled up their opposition.
Singles victories, however, did not come as easily. Adams won her match at No. 1 vs. Darinka Tiboldi in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, but Fisher and Mocciola each had to survive a third sets.
Fisher's 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 over Ai Noa Fabre gave ACU a short-lived 3-2 lead, then two matches later Mocciola held off Elena Belcher, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
Four of today's six singles matches were decided in a third set.
With her victory, Fisher is now tied with Memishishi for the team lead in singles' victories with eight. Adams is tops on the Wildcats' with nine doubles wins.
Earlier in the weekend, ACU suffered a 4-3 loss at Sam Houston State. ACU again won the doubles point and received singles victories from Memishishi at No. 2 and Stewart at No. 3.
