Game Recap: Softball |

Wildcats light it up on offense to sweep home opener

ABILENE— What started as a slow day for the Wildcats turned into an offensive firestorm as they piled up runs on Prairie View A&M. ACU closed out the first game scoring five unanswered runs to walk off with the 9-8 win. They continued their offense to begin the second game, putting up nine runs in the bottom of the first. The team finished the second game with a score of 13-1 to earn the doubleheader sweep and are now on a four-game win streak.

Game 1
The Wildcats started the game out taking the 2-0 lead in the first before giving up seven runs over the next three innings. After giving up a four-spot in the top of the fourth, the Wildcats answered with two more runs, but gave up an eighth run in the top of the fifth. Down by four in the bottom of the seventh, ACU put up back-to-back singles in between the first two outs. A two-out walk loaded the bases and Caroline Adair was the hero of the night as she sent one over the left field wall for the game-tying grand slam. The Wildcats were unable to come away with a walk-off win in the seventh but in the bottom of the ninth, back-to-back errors allowed ACU to bring in the winning run.

Game 2
It was all offense from the start as ACU totaled nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to start game two. The Wildcats batted through the lineup and more in the bottom of the first with every player in the lineup making an impact. Samantha Bradley got the scoring started with a single to bring in Katelyn Belch from second. Once again, with the bases loaded, Caroline Adair came up with a huge bases clearing triple that set the team up to keep the inning rolling. Four more singles brought in runs in the first inning and the Wildcats never looked back. The team posted four more runs over the course of the game and Alivia Sinnott gave up just one run to earn the five-inning run-rule victory.
