Athletics posts its highest term GPA in Fall 2020

ABILENE - Abilene Christian's student-athletes finished the Fall 2020 term with a 3.35 grade-point average, the highest recorded by the Wildcats' Athletics Department since GPA records began being kept in Fall 2011.

"I'm incredibly proud of our student-athletes, coaches, and academic counselors," said Athletics Director Allen Ward. "I especially want to thank (Assistant AD for Academics and Senior Woman Administrator) Sarah Shipp, (Academics Coordinator) Melissa Sullivan, and (Assistant Director of Compliance for Eligibility) Krista Masci for their hard work in assisting our student-athletes post this outstanding GPA. This was an incredibly challenging semester for everyone, so the classroom performance by our S-As is to be commended."

All 15 men's and women's varsity sports completed the COVID complicated semester with GPAs over 3.00. The seven men's teams registered a record 3.20 GPA, while the eight women's teams earned a 3.58, extending their streak to 19 consecutive 3.0 semesters.

Casey Wilson's women's soccer team led all programs with a 3.64 GPA followed by volleyball (coach Angela Mooney) and tennis (coach Juan Nunez), which tied a 3.61.

Tom Shaw's golf team led the men's side with a 3.53 GPA. Tennis (Nunez) was a close second at 3.50 and baseball (coach Rick McCarty) finished with a 3.45.
