Wildcats wrap September with weekend trip to Louisiana

ABILENE – The ACU soccer team (5-2-1, 1-0 SLC) wraps the September portion of its schedule this weekend with a road trip to the state of Louisiana for a pair of conference games. The Wildcats will match up with the Nicholls Colonels in Thibodaux, La. on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. before heading to Hammond, La. for a date with the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
- ACU owns a 4-2 advantage in the series with Nicholls, but are just 1-2 in games played in Thibodaux. The Wildcats picked up a 1-0 win in Abilene last season; in the four wins over Nicholls, ACU has outscored the Colonels 10-2.
- ACU has lost just once in six tries to Southeastern Louisiana, and have outscored the Lady Lions 7-2. The Wildcats have won three in a row in the series, with the only loss coming in 2015 in Hammond.

ACU STORYLINES
- The Wildcats are coming off a 4-1 victory over Houston Baptist to open the league schedule, and got scores from four different players in the process.
- It was a 55-shot night between the two teams last Friday, with ACU leading 36-19. The Wildcats had 19 attempts in the first half and added 17 more in the second half. The 36 is the most for ACU this season, and the 19 is the most in any half.
- ACU is now 5-1-1 in Southland Conference openers since re-joining the league in 2013.
- Freshman Natalie Jones earned Honorable Mention Offensive Player of the Week in the Southland after a one-goal, two-assist performance against HBU. Jones ranks third in the league in both goals (five) and points (12).
- Shay Johnson's four goals rank sixth in the Southland Conference.
- Junior Christina Arteaga's 31 shot attempts rank second in the conference.

SCOUTING NICHOLLS (3-4-1)
- The Colonels are coming off back-to-back losses to Southern (2-1) and Lamar (6-0), and have dropped four of their last five matches overall.
- Blaire Lache leads the team by a mile with six goals scored on the season. The next closest is Elisabet Gunnthorsdottir with two.
- Roosa Hurmerinta has started six times in net, going 0-3 with 19 saves.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA (1-6-1)
- The Lady Lions look to stop the bleeding after dropping four matches in a row. SLU opened league play last weekend with a 1-0 loss to McNeese.
- SLU has only scored five times this season, with Ellie Williams leading the way with two scores.
- Nadine Maher is 1-4-1 in net in seven starts, and has tallied 38 saves this season.
