Tennis' Hach rising up ATP doubles rankings

ABILENE – Hans Hach Verdugo, a three-year All-America and three-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year with the Wildcats from 2011 to 2013, recently attained a career high ATP doubles ranking of 128 on July 15 after he and partner Dennis Novikov reached the semifinals of Winnipeg National Bank Challenger.

He and Novikov then made their way to the finals of the Challenger Banque National de Gatineau in Quebec on July 21, where they fell in three sets to the duo of No. 149 Alex Lawson and No. 190 Marc Polmans. Coaching Hach to his third doubles final of the year is another Wildcat star Artin Tafazoli, who was the 2004 Lone Star Conference singles champion and a 2005 All-America.

Hach has played professionally since graduating from Abilene Christian, and through the first half of 2019 he's already played in several states in addition to making multiple trips throughout China, Italy, Germany, Canada and his native homeland of Mexico. Out of his 20 tournaments this year, he's made it to the quarterfinals 13 times, seen the eight semifinals times, and reached the finals on three occasions.

According to his Wikipedia page, which was updated earlier this month, Hach has won one ITF singles title, one Challenger and 19 ITF doubles titles. Last summer he and his partner Andreas Siljeström were called up to compete at the U.S. Open Grand Slam Event as alternates, and with Mexico at the Davis Cup he has a career win/loss record of 3-1.
