ABILENE - Director of Tennis
John Walker Monday announced the addition of Andrew Otzenberger to the Wildcats' 2020-21 roster. A native of Shreveport, La., and senior at Calvary Baptist Academy, Otzenberger signed his National Letter of Intent earlier this month, giving the ACU men's program two signees for next season along with Barton CC transfer Oswaldo Cano.
"We're excited to add a player of Andrew's caliber to next year's team," said Walker who's preparing ACU's men's and women's squads for their upcoming spring seasons (Jan. 10). "He comes here with a tremendous amount of experience, playing at ITF, UTSA and ITA events, and he's even faced a couple of our players on the Summer Circuit. He's someone who will help us right away in singles and doubles."
Currently the No. 5 competitor in Louisiana, Otzenberger started playing Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) as a sophomore and has only suffered one career loss at this level complete with two state appearances. He was the 2018 regionals and state singles winner, ending the year ranked as the state's No. 1 player in the combined 16s / 18s division. The following season he repeated as regional champion and earned state runner-up honors.
Otzenberger, who played his first ITF Tournament at 15 years old, has twice been selected to represent Louisiana at Southern Cup, and for the last two years he was voted
Shreveport Times High School Tennis Player of the Year. The basketball letter winner also captured Athlete of the Week citations from
KSLA and the
Shreveport Times.
Otzenberger plans to major in biology at ACU. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club at Calvary.
