Wildcats and Islanders collide in Corpus for Friday night soccer

ABILENE – The ACU soccer team (8-2-2, 4-0-1 SLC) begins its three-game, two-week road trip this Friday, Oct. 11 as it heads south to Corpus Christi, Texas for a date with the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The road trip will continue in a week with games at Lamar and McNeese before returning home just before Halloween. Kickoff this Friday night is slated for 7 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
- ACU owns a 3-1-2 advantage all-time with Corpus Christi, including a 2-1 record on the road. The two teams ended in a scoreless tie last season at Elmer Gray Stadium, but the Wildcats won two straight in Corpus in 2016 and 2017. In ACU's wins they've outscored the Islanders 8-2.

ACU STORYLINES
- The Wildcats are coming off a home weekend that featured a tie with Northwestern State (1-1) and  4-1 victory over Central Arkansas.
- ACU is off to its best start in Southland Conference play since joining the league in 2013. The Wildcats have wins over Houston Baptist, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana, and Central Arkansas.
- Christina Arteaga earned Southland Conference Honorable Mention Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals over the weekend at Elmer Gray Stadium. Arteaga now stands alone in second place in ACU's history in career points (59) and career goals (24).
- Arteaga leads the way with seven goals this season, ranking fourth in the Southland Conference.
- Freshman Natalie Jones' five scores rank seventh in the league.
- Arteaga and Jones each lead the way with four assists, tying for fifth in the conference.
- Goalkeeper Rachel Johnson has climbed up the ACU record books, ranking fourth in career wins (16), second in career shutouts (11), seventh in career games played (26), sixth in career saves (123), and seventh in career minutes played (2,373).

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI (6-5-1, 3-1-1 SLC)
- The Islanders are currently on a four-match unbeaten streak, with wins over SFA, Nicholls, and Southeastern Louisiana in that span. AMCC tied Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas, 1-1.
- Abby Deakin leads the way this season with six goals scored and three assists for a total of 15 points. Deakin has scored half the Islanders goals this season (six-of-12).
- AMCC is outscoring its opponents 9-6 in the first half of games and 6-4 in the second half.
