ABILENE - Senior
Sarah Adams was the furthest advancing Wildcat this past week at the ITA Texas Regionals hosted by Texas A&M as she reached the Round of 16 in the consolation bracket.
Adams dropped her first main draw match, and after receiving a first-round consolation draw bye she scored a 6-7 (3), 7-5, ret. victory over Sam Houston State's Petra Kazas.
Additional singles victories this weekend were claimed by juniors
Nini Memishishi and
Ileana Mocciola. Memishishi won her first main draw match over UTRGV's Valeria Montero, 6-0, 6-1, while Mocciola beat the Vaqueros' Ana Platisa, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 10-3.
The Wildcats experienced a majority of their success in doubles, winning three of four first round matches. Mocciola and freshman
Claire Fisher edged Texas State's Cassara and Lewis, 8-7 (7), sophomores
Allison Stewart and
Sylvia Viljoen beat North Texas' Hummel and Sasaki, 8-7 (9) and freshmen
Eva Du Toit and
Andrea Guerrero topped UTRGV's Mamicova and Thal, 8-6.
The ITA Texas Regionals concluded the fall portion of the 2019-20 women's tennis schedule.
