9/21/2018 2:47:00 PM | Men's Golf
ABILENE – The ACU golf team heads to Dallas for its second meet of the 2018 fall season, partaking in the 2nd Annual Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU from Sunday to Tuesday, Sept. 23-25. The tournament will take place at the Trinity Forest Golf Course, with events getting underway at 8 a.m. each morning.
THE COURSE… Trinity Forest Golf Club resembles many of the great old courses of the Northeast and Great Britain, featuring a links style course on a rolling meadow with tall native grasses and dramatic bunkering and green complexes. The team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw (Coore & Crenshaw, Inc.) designed both the championship golf course, the short course and the nine-hole "Horse Course". The design of Trinity Forest honors classic golf courses with traditional, strategic golf and great artistry as the guiding philosophy. Trinity Forest will become the future home of the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson Championship, as well as annually host NCAA invitational tournament and additional high-profile professional and amateur events. The Club is also the new home course for SMU's golf team.
THE FIELD… ACU, Ball State, Baylor, Charleston, Florida, Little Rock, New Mexico, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, and UTSA.
ACU LINEUP… The Wildcats will go with a lineup consisting of sophomore Alex Clouse, senior Garrett Glanton, junior Bryce Dooley, freshman Francisco Osio, sophomore Chase Allison, and senior Kade Miller.
A FIRST LOOK… ACU will participate in the Trinity Forest Invitational for the first time, as the tournament is in its second year of existence. The Wildcats placed ninth as a team in the 16-team tournament after 54 holes with a score of 876, good for 12-over par. The three-day total included a 289 on Friday, 292 on Saturday, and a 295 on Sunday. ACU was tied for seventh after the first two days, but Missouri State and Weber State each rallied with lower scores Sunday to move up the leaderboard. Clouse finished tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard, with a three-day total of 212 (-4). The highlight was a -4 day-two 68, and despite a +2 74 on Sunday, the sophomore led the team throughout the weekend.
