Nicholls takes series from Wildcat Softball, 5-3

THIBODAUX, La. – Senior designated player Allyson Bishoff went 3-for-3 with two RBI and first baseman Brianna Barnhill went 2-for-2 in Abilene Christian's 5-3 loss to Nicholls in the final game of their three-game softball series Saturday at Swanner Field.
The Wildcats (13-20, 7-8 SLC) struck first scoring two runs in the fourth when catcher Kayla Keeling was walked. Kennedy Ratliff came in to pitch run for Keeling and two batters later Barnhill singled to put runners on first and second. The runners advanced into second position on Briana Tijerina's ground ball, which set up Bishoff's double to left field that plated both Ratliff and Barnhill.
The Colonels (13-20, 7-8 SLC) quickly answered back by scoring five runs over the next three innings. Kasey Frederick made it a 2-1 game in the fourth with her solo home run, and the home team took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring three times on a combination of two errrors, a walk and stolen base. Nicholls added one insurance in the sixth on Moriah Strother's two-our RBI single vs. starter Hannah Null.
After throwing 198 pitches last night in a 15.0-inning complete game shutout, Null (11-10) again went the distance today, striking out five and giving up three earned runs on five hits.
ACU attempt at a seventh-inning rally was cut short as Donelle Johnson's leadoff double was followed by three consecutive ground outs against Alexis LaBure (8-4). Johnson would score on Holly Neese's ground ball to third base.
The Wildcats return to Poly Wells Field Tuesday for a midweek matchup against Texas Tech at 6 p.m.
