BEAUMONT – The ACU men's tennis season came to an end Saturday morning with a 4-2 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the semifinal round of the Southland Conference Postseason Tournament at the Beaumont Tennis Center.
The Wildcats complete the season at 14-11 overall, while the Islanders move into Sunday's 10 a.m. championship match against No. 4 seed Lamar, which upset league regular season champion and No. 1 seed Incarnate Word, 4-2.
The Islanders won the doubles point with their top two teams each winning their matches, giving Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead going into singles play. The Wildcats grabbed a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 2 singles (
Jonathan Sheehy over William Mottet) and No. 1 singles (
Josh Sheehy over Francois Kellerman) before Corpus Christi ran off three straight wins at No. 3 singles (Carlos Pedrosa over
Henry Adams), No. 5 singles (Okkie Kellerman over Paul M Domanski) and No. 4 singles (Thomas Rodrigues over Nike Moceanu) in the clinching match.
