LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Wildcat golf team wrapped up its fourth and final tournament of the 2018 fall season at the Little Rock First Tee Classic hosted by the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
ACU improved each round, dropping two strokes from Monday to Tuesday's first round, and seven strokes from round one to round two Tuesday. The Wildcats made the biggest move up the leaderboard on the final day to finish tied for 14th with a 54-hole total of 916 (309-307-300).
The tournament was played at Chenal Country Club for the three rounds on Monday, Oct. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Arkansas State won the tournament as a team with a total of 863 (-1), finishing one stroke ahead of UNLV. Illinois State was two strokes out as a group in third place, while the hosts from Little Rock placed fourth with an 880.
Bryce Dooley led the way for ACU, tying for 35th place overall with a total of 223, but dropped 10 strokes from round one to round three. Dooley carded an 80 Monday, but followed up with a 73 and 70 to close the tournament.
Freshman Francisco Osio tied for 60th with a 229 (76-78-75), while Alex Clouse and Garrett Glanton tied for 78th with a three-round total of 235. Chase Allison rounded out the scoring for ACU with a 244 (87-81-76), placing 87th individually.
"Though we struggled with ball-striking all week, I'm proud of the way our guys fought each round and improved as the tournament went along," ACU head coach Tom Shaw said. "It was a vastly different course than what we're used to, but that's why we have venues like this on our schedule – to get our players ready for the national stage.
"We've shown some really good signs each tournament and I'm very much looking forward to the offseason to make some important improvements in each player," Shaw said. "We will be anxious and ready to go for an outstanding spring in 2019. The best is yet to come."
ACU opens the spring season with the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 11-12, 2019. The team will play at the Magnolia Grove-Crossing Course in Mobile, Ala. with the tournament being hosted by the University of South Alabama. For the complete spring schedule, click HERE.
