Perfect 10 vs. Alabama (Jan. 31, 2014) I Perfect 10 vs. Minnesota (March 6, 2015)
ABILENE – ACU director of athletics Lee De León announced Monday that he has hired former LSU gymnastics all-America Lloimincia Hall as ACU's new football academic coordinator.
Hall – who graduated with a bachelor's of science in sports administration from LSU in May 2015 and earned her master's of arts in education with a specialization in higher education administration from LSU in May – was hired in late July to oversee the academic performance of the ACU football program. She is one of the most highly decorated gymnasts in LSU history.
A four-time SEC champion in the floor exercise and the owner of seven perfect 10s in that event, Hall was a three-time first team all-America, four-time first team all-SEC selection and three-time academic all-America.
"We're excited to add Lloimincia to our staff and looking forward to her working with the student-athletes in our football program," said Lisa Gilmore, ACU Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Wellness. "She obviously knows what it takes to compete at the highest level in her sport and in the classroom, which makes her an ideal fit for this job."
ACU head football coach Adam Dorrel – who said in his introductory press conference last December that he wanted the program to be on better academic footing – lauded the hire as a necessary step in the program's growth at the NCAA Division I level.
"Lloimincia was one of several tremendous candidates we interviewed for this job," Dorrel said, "but it was her drive to be great that set her apart. We wanted someone in this role who could relate to our players on a competitive level and show them it's possible to be great in the competitive arena and in the classroom as well. She obviously has the credentials in both of those areas, and I believe she'll be a big part of getting the academic piece of this program where it needs to be."
Hall's responsibilities in her role will be to monitor football study hall each week, meet with academically at-risk players in the program and hold football student-athletes accountable for their academic performance. She will regularly communicate with Dorrel and the coaching staff regarding the academic performance and progress of student-athletes in the football program.
She will also meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during official and unofficial visits to campus to discuss the goals, vision, philosophy and expectations of the academic support program and athletics department. And, Hall said, she will share the mission and vision of ACU Athletics with each of those student-athletes in a tangible way.
"My foundation and background is built on Christian values," Hall said said, "and I am blessed to work at an institution that strives to differentiate itself by providing Jesus to our students and student-athletes and giving them the chance to honor Him with their athletic and academic gifts."
ACU STAFF NOTES
• ACU has also added Krista Masci to the administrative staff as the Academics Coordinator, replacing Tori Cummings, who left ACU last month for a similar position at Lamar University. Masci earned her bachelor of science in digital entertainment technology in 2015 and is currently working on her master's at ACU. She spent the previous two years as the administrative coordinator for ACU's Department of Communication and Sociology. In her role in the athletics department, Masci will support Associate Director of Athletics for Academics, Chris Ballard, in addition to providing academic advising and mentoring, overseeing scholarship book purchases, and working with Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Jonathan Stewart.
• Todd Rogers, who took over as the Director of Club Sports in January, has added the duties of Director of Intramurals to his portfolio. In that role he will be responsible for training and supervision of a student staff, development, promotion and assessment of a year-round intramural sports program, and collaboration with the Student Recreation and Wellness Center staff regarding policies and procedures.
• Ballard – who was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for Academics in July – has also been elected to serve as chairman of the Staff Senate for the 2017-18 academic year. Assistant Director of Athletics for Recruiting Grant Abston is also serving on the Staff Senate in 2017-18.
• Marcus Dunn was recently hired as the General Manager for Wildcat IMG Sports Marketing. Dunn was hired by IMG – ACU's exclusive multimedia rights partner – after he spent the last 11 years with AT&T, including almost four as the area manager for AT&T Entertainment based in Houston. During that time, Dunn was responsible for an organization consisting of 12 retail locations comprised of 20 managers and more than 120 non-management employees.
• The only other full-time employees added to the ACU Athletics staff over the summer were volleyball assistant coach Ku'ulei Kabalis-Bianconi and baseball assistant coach Cory Vanderhook. However, Becky Brown – who was an intern in 2016-17 – was promoted to Assistant Director of Internal Operations. Lyndi Felan was also promoted to assistant coach for the softball program after Heather Barton left to take a high school head coaching job in July.
• Interns added for 2017-18 are Melissa Sullivan (media relations), Samantha Haiden (sports medicine), Katelyn Musil (sports medicine), Allison Powers (sports medicine), Austin Strabala (sports medicine), Cam Means (football), Jared Bowling (strength and conditioning), Mackenzie Nelsen (internal operations), Mary Kate Rotenberry (special events), and Caleb Casas (marketing).
• Other hires over the summer were Robbie Rea (baseball volunteer assistant coach), Aleah Davis (women's soccer volunteer assistant coach), Casey-May Huff (softball volunteer assistant coach), and Seth Alstom (volleyball operations director and beach volleyball coach).
