Wildcats finish fifth in first spring tournament

Final Results
SAN ANTONIO – The ACU Wildcats finished their first spring tournament of the 2017 season in fifth place at the James S. Litz Memorial Tournament at The Republic Golf Club, finishing 23 shots behind team champion Incarnate Word.
The Wildcats were fifth after carding rounds of 295-299-296 for a 38-over-par total of 890. UIW won the tournament at 15-over-par 867 after posting rounds of 291-284 on Monday and 292 on Tuesday in wet and windy conditions.
Oklahoma City University – the No. 1 team in NAIA men's golf – finished second, two shots behind Incarnate Word at 17-over-par 869 after posting rounds of 288-292-289. Sterner University was third at 35-over-par 887 (295-297-295), followed by Western Texas College at 37-over-par 889 (299-296-294) and then ACU.
Senior Kyle Karnei was ACU's top finisher at 9-over-par 222 after posting rounds of 71-75-76 to finish tied for 18th. Senior Ryan Beatty was tied for 20th at 10-over-par 223 (72-79-72). Sophomore Garrett Glanton finished tied for 28th at 13-over-par (75-75-76–226), while junior G.K. Morrison was tied for 31st at 14-over-par (80-75-72–227). Bryce Dooley rounded out the Wildcats' five, also tied for 31st at 14-over-par (77-74-76–227).
Robert Johnson played as an individual and finished 58th in the tournament at 23-over-par 236 (78-72-86).
ACU will return to action next week at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
