SAN ANTONIO – The ACU Wildcats get their spring season underway Monday with the two-day, 54-hole James Litz Memorial Tournament that will conclude Tuesday afternoon.
The 13-team tournament will be played on the par-71, 7,007-yard course at The Republic Golf Club. The forecast calls for chances of rain both Monday and Tuesday in San Antonio, which could delay the 54-hole tournament. Each of the teams are scheduled to play 36 holes Monday with the final 18 being played Tuesday.
Aside form ACU and the hosts from Incarnate Word, the tournament field includes Alabama State, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Our Lady of the Lake, Odessa College, Prairie View A&M, Schreiner, St. Thomas, Texas Southern and Western Texas College. Southern Conference opponent New Orleans is also in the field, as well as Oklahoma City University, the top-ranked team in NAIA men's golf.
The Wildcats will send seniors Kyle Karnei and Ryan Beatty, junior G.K. Morrison, sophomore Garrett Glanton and freshman Bryce Dooley to the tournament.
Designed by Art Schaupeter, ASGCA, The Republic was voted the No. 1 course in San Antonio by the Express-News in 2006, 2007 and 2009. The course is built along scenic Salado Creek among glorious oaks, elms and mesquite trees, located just 10 minutes from downtown San Antonio's world famous Riverwalk.
