Q: How is ACU like a second home for you? A: "ACU has always been a part of my family and it truly feels like home to me. My dad and mother are both ACU alums. While they were at ACU, my dad was a part of the track and field team and my mother was a part of the volleyball team. Because of their history, I attended ACU camps for several years as a little girl. It was my dream to grow up one day and to play basketball at this university. Now I have passed on this desire to my youngest sister Taylor. For the past five years she has attended ACU basketball camp. It was so special for me to have her as my camper for the past three years. However, the most special memory that we get to share is her participating as a ball girl at mainly all of our home games." Kid Sierra dunking in Moody Q: You recently adjusted your major. What are you studying now? What career do you see yourself in 10 years from now? A: "I now have a double major in Child and Family Services and Psychology. Each of these fields are similar in many ways and I am so passionate about helping families and children. A career that I see myself in 10 years down the road would be working in an institution that deals with disabled children. I would also enjoy opening up my own counseling practice for families on the side. I am so interested in each of these careers and I hope that the Lord will lay out a plan for me that allows me to help those in need."
Q: What are some highlights from your summer so far? A: "My summer started with getting the opportunity to meet my new teammates and work with our 2016-2017 team. Another event that took place this summer was our annual basketball camps. I loved getting to work camps this year, like I do every summer. It's always a blessing getting to mentor younger girls that look up to us. Another huge highlight of my summer, was getting to take a five-day trip to Ruidoso, New Mexico with my family. Every summer my family takes a trip up there to relax and fellowship with one another. This year we got to explore White Sands national park and got to hike Sierra Blanca for the second time. I really enjoyed getting a break from everything and to explore some of God's beautiful creations."
Q: You spent six weeks on campus taking summer class and working out with your new 2016-2017 team. In what area did you grow individually and how did the team get better during that time? A: "Over the past six weeks I have definitely grown individually because I moved into my own house here in Abilene and I've had to take more responsibility in my life. I now have to focus on paying rent and bills. This is a drastic change and experience that I have definitely grown and matured from. I believe that my team and I have gotten better during this time through the friendships that we have formed. Being teammates is one thing, however, being friends just adds to it. I feel that out of every ACU team I have played on, this team has the most chemistry. This chemistry isn't only shown outside of basketball, but also through every practice and competition. We all have one another's backs and are constantly encouraging each other to be the best basketball player and women that we can be."
Q: What can Wildcat fans expect from this 2016-2017 team? A: "Boy oh boy, are Wildcat fans in for a treat with this team! I believe that this is a very special group of young ladies and I have a feeling that we will do great things this upcoming season. I know that we will be working towards another conference championship each and everyday that we step on the court together. It's such an exciting feeling when I look ahead to this season. I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for this 2016-2017 team. Go Wildcats!"
