COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore and favorite for Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year Hunter Holman Friday defeated James Martell of 11th-ranked Texas A&M in three sets at the No. 4 line in the Wildcats' 5-1 loss to the Aggies at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

Holman rallied from a set down to beat Martell in a supertiebreak, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6, for his team leading 17th victory of the season even as his team fell to 18-9 on the spring. The Aggies, meanwhile, improved to 24-8 and will play their SEC finale later today vs. LSU.

In addition to Holman, ACU also received a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles from junior Nico Agritelley and sophomore Henry Adams over Aleksandre Bakshi and Jackson Withrow.

Withrow normally plays at the top line with Arthur Rinderknech as the 19th-ranked doubles team in the nation.  Rinderknech, however, was moved to the No. 3 line with Max Lunkin and they defeated Holman and freshman Josh Sheehy, 6-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant edged senior Jason Proctor and Paul Domanski, 7-5.

The Wildcats lost in straight sets at each singles' line with the exception of No. 4 and No. 1, where Sheehy and Jordi Arconada left their match unfinished with Arconada leading, 7-5, 2-1.

Most of the other scores were quite close with Agritelley falling at No. 3 to Withrow, 6-3, 6-3, and Sam Giammalva tripping up Domanski at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4. Adams also suffered a two-point loss in the first set at No. 5 to Frankie Colunga (6-4, 6-2), and Proctor lost at No. 2 to Bakshi, 6-1, 6-2.

The Wildcats continue their weekend road trip Saturday with the conclusion of their Southland Conference dual vs. New Orleans. The match will be resumed at 1 p.m. at Rice University.
