Women’s Tennis continues its dominance over UIW, 7-0

SAN ANTONIO – Abilene Christian women's tennis shut out Incarnate Word for the sixth-straight season Friday at the UIW Tennis Courts, 7-0.
 
The Cardinals fell to 2-17 on the season (0-9 Southland) following today's loss and haven't won a single point against ACU in singles or doubles since March of 2011, while the Wildcats improved to 15-5 (5-1 Southland).
 
ACU won five of six singles matches in straight sets and won its fifth-consecutive doubles point after its No. 1 and 2 teams posted 6-1 and 6-3 victories, respectively. No. 1's Erin Walker and Whitney Williams have won four straight in improving to 14-6, and the No. 2 duo of Lucile Pothier and Kaysie Hermsdorf has won seven consecutive decisions in lifting its record to 17-6.
 
Pothier additionally has the team's longest singles winning streak at 10 matches, as today she was the third Wildcat off the court after beating Taryn Strahl 6-0, 6-3. Finishing ahead of her were senior Nada Marjanovic – a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4 vs. Victoria Kareh – and Walker, who pushed her No. 1 victory streak to a third match, topping Rachel Sadiq, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Hermsdorf won her 10th match of the spring at No. 2, holding on to beat Matea Zemunik 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, while at No. 5, Williams remained undefeated vs. the Southland Conference at 6-0 after scoring a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Sarah Savedra.
 
Freshman Jordan Henry completed the Wildcats' sweep with her win at No. 6 over Maria Batchinsky, 6-1, 7-5.
 
Today's shutout was ACU's fifth of the spring. The Wildcats are now 77-54 (.588) in singles and 50-28 (.641) in doubles.
 
The Wildcats continue their four-game road trip Saturday with an 11 a.m. match in Huntsville, Texas vs. Sam Houston State. ACU blanked the Bearkats 7-0 at home last season.
