ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's tennis plays at home for the first time in close to two weeks Friday when the Wildcats welcome their Southland Conference rivals from McNeese State for a 10 a.m. dual. The match may be moved indoors to the Teague Events Center as the forecast calls for 18 mile per hour winds and a game-time temperature of 56 degrees.

The Wildcats are 1-1 all-time vs. the Cowgirls. ACU won 4-3 in Abilene in 2014 with victories coming in singles from current Wildcats Kaysie Hermsdorf, Nada Marjanovic and Erin Walker. McNeese won last year's rematch in Lake Charles, La., by the same narrow margin. ACU again won the doubles point but its only singles victories came at No. 4 and 6 from Walker and Whitney Williams.

ACU enters Friday's match at 12-5 overall and 2-1 vs. the Southland following last week's Spring Break trip to Louisiana, where the Wildcats followed a 4-3 loss to Southeastern with a 6-1 win at Nicholls. ACU was to have played at New Orleans last Friday, but the match was suspended after doubles due to rain and will be rescheduled at a later time.

The Wildcats last week also lost a home match with Northwestern State due to flooding along I20 in Shreveport, La., but that dual has been rescheduled for this coming Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m.

Marjanovic, Pothier and Williams have been leading the Wildcats of late and each will put significant individual winning streaks on the line vs. McNeese. Marjanovic and Pothier both have won their last seven singles matches and are 16-2 and 13-6, respectively, while Williams, has won her last four in improving to 10-5.

ACU has a .561 winning percentage in singles (64-50), and in doubles the team has a combined record of 42-27 (.609). Hermsdorf and Pothier have the Wildcats' best doubles record at 14-6 followed by Walker / Williams at 11-6 and Marjanovic / Andrea Crook at 9-4.

McNeese is 12-5 overall and is off to a fine start against the league at 5-1. The Cowgirls lost 4-3 to Corpus Christi earlier this week, but prior to that they beat Central Arkansas, Nicholls, Sam Houston, Lamar and Incarnate Word by an average score of 6-1.

McNeese has an overall singles record of 73-28 (.723) with four individuals claiming a double-digit victory total, and in doubles the Cowgirls are 23-15 (.605).
