ACU vs. Houston Baptist: Live Stats | Video

ABILENE - Abilene Christian plays host to Houston Baptist Friday at 7 p.m. at Elmer Gray Stadium in a match between two sides currently tied for fourth place within the Southland Conference at 3-1-1.

The match will be broadcast live via Stretch Internet's Gameday Central with Mary Kate Rotenberry and Kyle McAlister providing the play-by-play and color commentary.

The Huskies (5-6-1) are visiting the Key City for the second time in four years and first since 2013. ACU leads the all-time series 2-1, and won last year's match on the road by a 3-1 score.

A victory for the Wildcats or Huskies keeps them in the hunt for the regular-season title against the likes of Stephen F. Austin, Central Arkansas and Northwestern State, but anything less will certainly hurt their chances if last year's final standings serve as any kind of indication. The Ladyjacks went 8-1-2 a year ago, finishing two points ahead of HBU (8-3) and three ahead of the Wildcats (7-2-2).

ACU (4-7-2) started its conference season strong with three consecutive victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Nicholls and Southeastern, but were slowed a bit last weekend on the road against two teams ahead in the standings. The Wildcats fell 2-1 in overtime Friday to a Northwestern State side who beat the Wildcats for the first time in four meetings. ACU then tied Central Arkansas 0-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The scoreless deadlock halted the Bears four-match winning streak in which they outscored their league opposition 18-2. Senior goalkeeper Sydney Newton made eight saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season (ninth of career), and was recognized for her efforts with a Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honorable mention.

Newton is ranked among the Southland Conference leaders in several goalkeeping categories. She is first with a 0.862 goals-against average, fifth in saves (55) and is second in save percentage (.859) and shutouts (4).

Offensively, junior midfielder Chloe Fifer continues to lead the conference with seven assists and 0.583 assists per game.
