Volleyball finishes road trip with matches vs. Lady Demons and Bears

ABILENE – Abilene Christian volleyball plays its final two road matches of the 2016 season Thursday and Saturday when the Wildcats vs. Northwestern State and Central Arkansas. Start times are 7 p.m. and noon.
The Wildcats (7-18, 6-4) were off last weekend and haven't played since a 3-0 loss at Lamar on Oct. 18; however, they haven't lost much ground in the standings and enter this week in fourth place 1.0 game behind Houston Baptist and two back of Stephen F. Austin. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi leads the league with a spotless 10-0 record with six matches remaining.
Northwestern State is a half game back of the Wildcats at 6-5 and have lost its last three decisions to Southeastern (3-2), Sam Houston State (3-2) and SFA (3-0). Central Arkansas (4-7) also is looking to shake off its own two-game losing streak and get back into the Southland Conference tournament picture after being swept last weekend by both the Bearkats and Ladyjacks.
ACU has five individuals ranked in the conference leaderboards. Sophomore outside hitter Jacey Smith is ninth with 2.85 kills per set, and Kendall Bosse ranks 10th in assists with 7.48 per set. On defense, middle blockers Lauren Walker (1.08) and Lexi Mercier (1.04) are fifth and eighth in blocks, and libero Amanda Chapa ranks fifth in digs (4.47).
The Wildcats will play their final four matches of the regular season at home following this weekend. ACU plays host to Houston Baptist and Lamar the weekend of Nov. 5, and Nicholls and McNeese the weekend of Nov. 12.
