Those fans that can't make it to the Key City are welcome to follow the game via
live stats or watch the
live web broadcast.
The Wildcats enter their third season of conference play at 1-6-1 following a brutal non-conference schedule that pitted them against the upper-echelon teams of the Lone Star State, including Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas. Their slate also featured a nationally ranked side from Arizona, plus well-established DI programs from UTEP, UTSA and UC Irvine.
This past Sunday ACU gave its supporters an inspired performance at Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium, losing 2-1 on a pair of late goals by the Longhorns. Goalkeeper
Sydney Newton once again recorded a double-digit save total (11) and was nominated for Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week despite leaving early with a minor injury she incurred while trying to keep the match scoreless in the 70th minute.
Newton was stitched up immediately afterward and is expected to play against the Islanders.
Following Newton's exit UT scored the eventual game-winner against freshman net minder
Madeline Grimes and then rookie attacker
Sophie Standifer got the Wildcats on the board after forcing a turnover and striking one past Abby Smith in the 78th minute.
Standifer leads the Wildcats in points with five.
The Islanders also struggled to find wins during their preseason, going 0-5-1 with their lone draw being a 2-2 decision against UT-Rio Grande Valley. Corpus' losses came against UNLV, Southern Utah, Rice, Texas State and Houston.
