2015-16 Schedule
ABILENE – Fourth-year Abilene Christian head women's basketball coach Julie Goodenough Monday announced her team's challenging slate of games for the 2015-16 season, which once again is highlighted by the appearances of Big 12 Conference opposition Kansas State and Texas Tech.
The Wildcats meet K-State for the second consecutive season in Manhattan on Monday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m., and will play at Texas Tech for the third straight year on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 2 (7 p.m.). In between ACU will play host to four home games, including its season-opener on Saturday, Nov. 14 against regional rival Wayland Baptist at 6 p.m. and a rematch against UTSA the following Saturday that will tip at 2 p.m.
The Wildcats and Roadrunners have met in San Antonio the previous two seasons.
Additional games of interest this season are Goodenough's 600th game as a college head coach Monday, Nov. 23 vs. University of the Southwest and her 100th game at ACU on Jan. 7 vs. Northwestern State, which won last year's Southland Conference Championship as the No. 6 seed.
Both of these games will be played at Moody Coliseum.
Goodenough enters this season with a career record of 345-251 (.579), and she is 56-31 (.644) through her first three years with ACU.
The biggest home game on the schedule, however, may be the team's Feb. 10 date vs. Sam Houston State as it will serve as the 500th women's basketball game played at Moody Coliseum. The team began playing games here in 1971 and owns an all-time record of 369-121 (.753).
Following the Wildcats third trip to Lubbock in as many years ACU will visit the Air Force Academy the weekend of Dec. 4-5 for games against Grand Canyon and Eastern Michigan. The Falcons lost 80-44 at Moody Coliseum last season and will not face ACU during this go-around. Instead, the Wildcats will face the Antelopes and Eagles for the first time in program history, and like ACU, Grand Canyon is in the midst of its transition into NCAA DI Athletics as members of the WAC.
Closing out the 11-game non-conference schedule is a pre-Christmas flight to Eastern Washington (Dec. 18) and Idaho (Dec. 20). The Wildcats will then help ring in the New Year at home (Dec. 31) vs. Schreiner at 2 p.m.
ACU defeated Eastern Washington in the first-ever meeting between the schools, 79-72, at home last season.
"The fall semester schedule is challenging as always, and we have some good games at home ... I'm happy with how everything lined up," said Goodenough. "We're excited about the trip to Air Force and being able to play teams from other parts of the country that we don't see much down here.
"The pre-Christmas trip to Eastern Washington and Idaho is going to be another good measuring tool for our team, to see how we deal with playing quality teams on the road following a long trip," she said. "That and the Air Force trip are going to be a bit grueling, but they'll get us acclimated for those midweek bus trips to Louisiana during the middle of the conference season."
The Wildcats' 18-game Southland schedule begins Jan. 2 with a road game vs. Central Arkansas. They'll then alternate their next three games between home (Northwestern State, McNeese) and the road (Nicholls) before taking off on a three-game trip to face the defending conference regular season champions from Stephen F. Austin (Jan. 16), plus Sam Houston (Jan. 21) and Incarnate Word (Jan. 23).
ACU closes January with home games vs. Houston Baptist (Jan. 27) and Lamar (Jan. 30), and in February the Wildcats will play host to Sam Houston (Feb. 10), Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 21) and New Orleans (Feb. 27).
ACU's game vs. the Privateers starts a three-game homestand that will conclude the regular season. Incarnate Word visits Moody on March 2, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi arrives on Saturday, March 5.
Teams that appear twice on ACU's conference slate are Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
