ABILENE - Abilene Christian head softball coach Bobby Reeves Monday announced the addition of Heather Barton to his coaching staff for the 2015-16 season. Barton played under Reeves at Texas Tech and is the twin sister of Wildcats' assistant coach Ashley Reeves.

"The team is very excited to have a coach of Heather's caliber joining our program," said Reeves, who is at the start of his sixth season with the Wildcats. "Our players will quickly find that her knowledge as a former collegiate infielder and coach is quite valuable, and I expect that she'll also help us in our hitting, on the recruiting trail and making sure the team stays on top of their classwork."

After graduating from Texas Tech in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health, Barton taught and coached for the Levelland, Overton and Palestine Independent School Districts. She was named Teacher of the Year at Levelland ISD following the 2007-08 school year while also coaching varsity softball and volleyball.

Barton then taught for one year at St. Luke's Episcopal before moving onto Overton to coach softball, volleyball and basketball. She later taught first grade and coached softball for the Palestine ISD.

Barton was considered a spectacular defensive shortstop during her four-year career at Texas Tech and started close to every game between her junior and senior seasons. As a junior she hit two home runs to lead the Lady Raiders to an 8-3 win over Missouri, and the year previous she led the team with 21 runs scored.

Barton played high school softball at Lindale and helped lead them to a pair of Texas 3A State Tournament appearances. Twice she was named Defensive Player of the Year in addition to receiving First Team All-District honors as both a utility player and shortstop.

Barton and her husband, Josh, have two sons, Tristin and Aaron.
