ABILENE – Abilene Christian makes its final road trip of 2015 this weekend with rematches against Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State. The Wildcats meet the Ladyjacks Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for an ESPN3 web cast, and on Saturday they'll face the Lady Demons at 2 p.m.
Both matches will also offer live stats.
ACU met each of these teams last month at Moody Coliseum. The Wildcats swept Northwestern State on Oct. 1 to start a five-match homestand by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-23 led by 14 kills from senior outside hitter Jennifer Loerch. Two days later they suffered a 3-2 defeat to SFA in which the Ladyjacks rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit behind a combined 41 kills from the trio of Abby McIntyre, Justice Walker and Jacque Allen.
Loerch registered 15 kills vs. SFA followed by Kendall Bosse with 14 and Lauren Walker with 12. Also in that match senior libero Madison Hoover recorded a career-high 38 digs, which is second highest single-match total in Wildcat history.
Loerch enters this final week of the regular season ranked third in the Southland Conference with 3.47 kills per set, while Hoover is third with 4.96 digs per set. Elsewhere in the league rankings is setter Sarah Siemens who is fifth with 9.58 assists per set.
ACU remains in fourth place in the Southland Conference at 8-6, 2.0 games behind SFA for third, and a half game ahead of the 8-7 McNeese Cowgirls, who the Wildcats defeated on the road last Thursday, 3-1. Loerch and Bosse combined for 32 kills in that triumph, while Siemens provided 51 assists and Hoover dug out 20 attacks.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats had their road-winning streak snapped Saturday at Nicholls by a score of 3-0 – a match in which the Colonels were credited with nine service aces.
Northwestern State is currently a half game up on the Colonels (4-11) in the Southland standings at 4-10, and the Lady Demons will first play host to Incarnate Word Thursday at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Wildcats into Prather Coliseum.
