
Forrister, Kerjean and Woods voted onto Southland Conference All-Academic team

ABILENE - Seniors Erik Forrister and Baptiste Kerjean and sophomore Luke Woods Thursday were named to the 2013-14 Southland Conference All-Academic Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams. Kerjean was an automatic selection after winning the hammer throw title with a meet-record distance of 210 feet-1 inch (64.04 meters) in Conway, Ark.
Kerjean this year also placed fourth in the weight throw at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships (62-5) and won three additional hammer championships at meets hosted by McMurry, ACU and Oklahoma. A two-time Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week, Kerjean boosted his collegiate resume with a runner-up showing in the hammer throw (217-7) at the Texas Relays and placing third at the prestigious Drake Relays (208-6).
Kerjean majored in marketing and was named to the ACU Athletics Honor Roll this spring.
Woods was the 2014 Southland Conference runner-up in the decathlon with 6,805 points, which is the third highest score in SLC this spring and 61st in the NCAA. He also scored a point for the Wildcats outdoors with an eighth-place time in the 110-meter hurdles.
Indoors, Woods came in second in the Southland heptathlon with 4,934 points and earned Field Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 5 after winning the heptathlon at the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open.
An engineering major, Woods was named to ACU's Dean's Honor Roll and to ACU Athletics Honor Roll in the spring of 2014.
Forrister - a physics major with a 3.72 grade-point average - made the Southland Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall of 2013 after leading the Wildcats through their first cross country season under new coaches Keith Barnier and Drew Graham. He also was selected as an ACU Student-Athlete of the Month in October of 2013 and later Named to ACU Athletics Honor Roll in the spring.
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 14 member universities, votes for the student-athletes of the year. The student-athlete of the year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
All-academic members earned at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, completed at least one full academic year and participated in at least 50 percent of the school's events.
Lamar junior Sam Stabler and Sam Houston State senior Lygia Foreman were named the Southland Conference Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Year. Sam Houston State's Alyssa Dooley landed on the women's all-academic team for the fourth time in her career.
