LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The ACU Wildcats will return to the course Monday for the team's third tournament of the spring season when they play in the 21st annual Arkansas-Little Rock First Tee Classic.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on the Bear Den Mountain Course, a par-72, 7,326-yard track at the Chenal Country Club. The club's newest course, Bear Den Mountain, has tight, tree-lined fairways, crystal clear creeks and wildlife protected areas.
The Wildcats finished tied for fifth at their first tournament of the spring – the Moe O'Brien Intercollegiate in Lake Charles, La., April 24-25 – before finishing 14th three weeks ago at the SMU Querencia Cabo Collegiate against some of the top teams in the country, including then-top-ranked Alabama.
The Wildcats are led by junior Corbin Renner and senior Trey Sullivan, who finished tied for 33rd at the Cabo Collegiate.
In addition to ACU and the hosts from Arkansas-Little Rock, the 14-team field includes Arkansas State, Lipscomb, ULM, McNeese State, Missouri State, Nebraska-Omaha, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Illinois and UT Martin.
Southeastern Louisiana has taken the top spot each of the last two years. Playing in cold and windy conditions, the Lions earned the 2013 crown by combining for a 912 team score – the highest winning team score in the history of the event. Former ACU standout Alex Carpenter turned in a three-round score of 2-over par 218 to capture medalist honors in 2013.
Teams will follow Monday's action with the final 18 holes and another 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
