ABILENE, Texas - Abilene Christian's women's tennis team will look to continue its winning ways Saturday when it plays host to a three-team indoor invitational featuring in-state rivals Texas-Permian Basin and Trinity University.
The Wildcats will play the Falcons (1-1) - a D-II member of the Heartland Conference - Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Teague Events Center followed by the Tigers (0-0) - a D-III member of the SCAC - at noon.
Trinity, which is the 23rd ranked team in D-III will face off vs. Permian Basin in Abilene Friday at 6 p.m.
The Wildcats (2-1) performed well through their first three duals of the season last weekend in Southwestern Ohio as they followed consecutive 4-3 wins over Wright State and Cincinnati with a 5-2 loss to Xavier. The Musketeers are in their first year competing in the Big East Conference after finishing as the Atlantic-10 runner-up in 2013.
In an incredibly close match that could have gone either way, the Wildcats lost two games to Xavier in three sets at the No. 1 and 3 positions and dropped the doubles point with their No. 2 and 3 tandems falling by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
ACU's lone doubles win vs. Xavier was courtesy of Micah and
Kaysie Hermsdorf, who improved to 3-0 in dual play after defeating Alex Brinker and Sydney Liggins, 6-4. Kaysie also won her singles match at No. 5 over XU's Andrea Wold, 6-4, 6-2.
Overall, ACU's three doubles teams went 7-2 last weekend, while its seven singles competitors went 8-10. No. 1
Micah Hermsdorf and No. 5/4 sophomore
Nada Marjanovic led the Wildcats with a 2-1 record.
