ABILENE, Texas - With temperatures expected to reach the mid-70's Saturday, the Abilene Christian women's tennis team will play its first outdoor match of the season vs. New Mexico starting at noon at the Eager Tennis Pavilion.
This is the second all-time meeting between ACU and New Mexico. The Lobos won the first match 5-2 on Feb. 5, 2011 at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex in Albuquerque.
Senior
Micah Hermsdorf was a freshman on that year's team and won both matches in her spring collegiate debut vs. the Lobos. She knocked off Michaela Oldani at the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 and teamed up with Lauren White to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
The Wildcats enter the weekend with a season record of 4-1, while New Mexico is 5-1 and riding a four-match winning streak. After splitting their first two duals of the spring in Houston, the Lobos came home and beat Grand Canyon, CSU-Pueblo, Northern Arizona and Western New Mexico by a combined score of 25-3.
ACU dominated its opposition last weekend indoors at the Teague Events Center, defeating both UT-Permian Basin and Trinity University, 7-0. In recording 12 consecutive singles victories, the Wildcats improved to 26-18 (.591) on the season with sophomore
Nada Marjanovic leading the team with six wins.
In doubles play, ACU's season mark stands at 18-9 (.667). Micah and
Kaysie Hermsdorf lead ACU with a 7-2 record followed by
Erin Walker and
Brittney Reed at 6-3 and
Emily Conrad and Marjanovic at 5-4.
