ABILENE, Texas - Former Abilene Christian football standouts Charcandrick West and Taylor Gabriel will be part of Chan Gailey's National Team at Saturday's Medal of Honor Bowl, which kicks off at 2 p.m. ET/ 1 p.m. CT at Johnson Hagood Stadium on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
West is one of three running backs on the National roster, while Gabriel is listed as both wide receiver and kick returner.
The Medal of Honor Bowl is a premier all-star game featuring some of the nation's top draft eligible college football players. The game's secondary platform, however, is to honor Medal of Honor recipients and beneficiaries, the Medal of Honor Museum Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project.
In addition to being coached by Gailey - a five-year head coach in the NFL with the Cowboys and Bills - West will work with running backs coach Ethan Horton, who played eight NFL seasons for the Chiefs and Raiders after being named 1984 ACC Player of the Year at North Carolina. Gabriel's position coach is Kevin Patullo, who has previously worked for both Gailey in Buffalo and Mike Stoops at the University of Arizona.
The American Team will be led by Ralph Friedgen, former head coach for the University of Maryland and assistant coach for the San Diego Chargers.
Gabriel caught 73 passes for 1060 yards in 2013, including 10 touchdowns, and posted four 100-yard receiving games. He finished his career second in ACU history in catches (215), yards (3,027) and touchdown receptions (27).
Gabriel scored 31 career touchdowns overall, tying him with Johnny Knox for the sixth-most in program history. And in a Oct. 26 game at New Mexico State, the Mesquite, Texas, native recorded 15 catches to set a new single-game ACU record.
West finished his career as the only player in ACU football history to finish with at least 2,000 rushing yards, 1,000 receiving yards and 750 kickoff return yards in a career. His 3,823 career all-purpose yards are fifth on ACU's all-time list and his 35 touchdowns rank fourth.
West rushed for over 100 yards four times in 2013 to finish with 906 yards rushing and 443 receiving yards. He ran for four touchdowns and a career-best 151 yards in ACU's In the season-ending win over Prairie View A&M.
