Duncan and Forrister named to academic all-district team

ABILENE – Abilene junior distance runners Gary Duncan and Erik Forrister Thursday were named to the Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District VI first team for cross country and track and field by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Duncan and Forrister will have their names forwarded onto the Academic All-America ballot along with a dozen additional honorees from each of the eight districts. The Capitol One D-II Academic All-America Track and Field/Cross Country Team will be announced Wednesday June 26.
 
A biochemistry major from Longview, Texas, Duncan is a two-time Lone Star Conference all-academic honoree who has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average through all six semesters. He also has made six Dean's Lists at ACU and been the beneficiary of several generous scholarships, including ACU's Chancellor's Scholarship and the Revis D. and Earlene D. Tyler Endowed Chemistry Scholarship.
 
Forrister is a physics major from Llano, Texas, who has earned four Lone Star Conference all-academic certificates in cross country and track and field since his debut in 2010. He also was voted as its Academic Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2011 and twice been tabbed to its Commissioner's Honor Roll.
 
A six-time Dean's List honoree, Forrister is a member of both the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and Sigma Pi Sigma (the Society of Physics Students National Honor Society).
 
Duncan and Forrister have been part of several conference championship teams with the Wildcats, including 2010 cross country, 2011 and 2012 outdoors and 2013 indoors. Forrister scored several points for ACU between the 3K, 5K and distance medley relay events during February's indoor championships.
