FORT WORTH -- TCU's strength inside was more than the ACU Wildcats could handle Wednesday night as the Lady Frogs bulled their way to an 82-55 win over ACU in women's basketball action at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 7-4 on the season, while the Lady Frogs improve to 7-3. ACU will be back in action Friday night at 8 p.m. against Florida Atlantic in the Texas Tech World Vision Challenge at the United Spirit Arena.
TCU -- which started 6-3 Latricia Lovings and 6-6 Klara Bradshaw on the interior -- dominated the paint and the glass against the Wildcats, who are in their first season as an NCAA Division I program. The Lady Frogs outscored ACU 38-12 in the paint and out-rebounded the Wildcats, 40-24.
The Lady Frogs also forced 23 turnovers and came up with 16 steals against the Wildcats.
The Wildcats -- one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the Southland Conference -- were hot from the field early as sophmore guard
Whitney West buried three 3-pointers in the early going, the last one at the 16:07 mark of the first half to give ACU an 11-10 lead.
But TCU responded with a 13-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 23-13 lead with 10:07 left in the first half. Natalie Ventress and Donielle Brdaux each had four points in the run that gave TCU its first double-digit lead.
The Wildcats would not get closer than that 10-point deficit the rest of the night. TCU pulled away to a 46-23 lead at the break. The closest ACU would get in the second half was 17.
West led the Wildcats with 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting (5 of 10 from 3-point range), and
Suzzy Dimba had 10 points and five rebounds.
Alexis Mason had nine points, all of them coming on 3-pointers as she hit 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.
Freshman Veja Hamilton led TCU with 18 points, while Ventress had 15 and Breaux 11.
