
ACU names its October student-athletes of the month

ABILENE – Members of the ACU Athletics Department earlier this month selected Neely Borger, Brie Buschman, Erik Forrister and Blake Rudd as its October Student-Athletes of the Month in recognition of their recent academic achievements.
All four honorees have made the ACU Athletics during the past year and been named to the D2 Athletics Director's Association Honor Roll.
The Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union sponsors the monthly award.
· Neely Borger (Volleyball / R-Jr. / Amarillo, Texas): A former Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year, Borger is hitting .210 this season with 114 kills, five service aces and 58 blocks. She also has appeared in all 79 sets a year removed from missing all of 2012 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Borger's academic awards include spots on the LSC all-academic and Capital One Academic All-District VI first teams. She is majoring in marketing and carrying a 3.92 grade-point average.
· Brie Buschman (Soccer / Sr. / Amarillo, Texas): A communication major with a 3.96 GPA, Buschman recently earned her second Capital One Academic All-District honor in three years and first as a NCAA D-I student-athlete. This was her third honor from Capital One as she previously named Third Team Academic All-America following her sophomore year of 2011. Buschman last week was named Second Team Southland Conference after helping the Wildcats finish this season with an overall record of 13-5-1.
· Erik Forrister (Cross Country / Sr. / Llano, Texas): Forrister, a former Lone Star Conference Men's Academic Runner of the Year, led his team to the finish line at all five of this season's meets before placing second to teammate Daniel Block at the Southland Conference Championships. Forrister recorded his best 8K of the fall two weeks ago at pre-nationals with a time of 26:26.7 and is now preparing for the indoor track and field season, which begins Jan. 18 at Texas A&M. Forrister has a .371 GPA and is majoring in physics.
· Blake Rudd (Football / Sr. / Dallas, Texas): Rudd has appeared in all nine games and has 30 tackles to go along with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He returned one of those picks eight yards in the blowout win over Concordia and recorded his second vs. New Mexico Highlands. Twice this year Rudd has recorded a season-game high six tackles vs. N.M. Highlands and Incarnate Word. Rudd is majoring in organizational management and is carrying a 3.52 GPA. His Wildcats play Saturday at UIW.
