ABILENE – The Abilene Christian men's and women's track and field teams will split up this weekend for meets being hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy and University of New Mexico.
The multi-athletes and throwers will represent ACU in Colorado Springs, Colo., while the rest of the team will be dispatched to Albuquerque. The UNM indoor facility is located in the Albuquerque Convention Center and is a 200 meter, 60 degree banked Mondo track. The track has eight 46-inch sprint lanes that run down the center of the facility.
Friday's events in New Mexico begin at 4 p.m. (MT) with men's and women's pole vault and concluding with the 3,000-meter run. Saturday's portion of the meet starts at 9 a.m. (MT) with the long jump.
The Air Force Invitational runs Thursday through Saturday at the Cadet Field House, which has an elevation of 7,048 feet above sea level and six 36” lanes on the oval. Opposing NCAA D-I schools include BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming, while the D-II field features Adams State, Chadron State, Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines, CSU-Pueblo and Metro State.
The schedule of events begins Thursday at 1 p.m. (MT) with the women's 60-meter pentathlon hurdles and concludes Saturday at 3:50 p.m. (MT) with the mile relay.
The Wildcats are coming off a quality showing last week at the Masked Rider Open, where they combined for five victories, eight NCAA provisional marks and one automatic from senior Amanda Ouedraogo in the triple jump. The Lone Star Conference recognized Ouedraogo for her winning triple jump distance of 41 feet-0.25 inches (12.50 meters) – the second best in NCAA D-II this season – with her fourth career field athlete of the week citation.
The conference also honored freshmen sprinters Elea Diarra and Johnathan Farquarhson as its track athletes of the week for winning the 400-meter (55.84) and 55m dashes (6.30), respectively. Both times are NCAA provisional marks and ranked among the top-10 NCAA D-II performers.
Also winning for ACU last week were seniors Baptiste Kerjean in the hammer throw (58-1, 17.70m) and Chloe Susset (5:08.10).
Additional provisional qualifiers for the Wildcats include Jordan Geary (400m), Shennae Steele (55m), Reyare Thomas (55m), Lexus Williams (55m hurdles) and the 4x400m relay of Steele, Thomas, Ayesha Rumble and Diarra.
