AFCA Poll
WACO – The ACU Wildcats moved up one spot in this week's American Football Coaches' Association NCAA Division II Coaches' poll, which was released Monday.
The Wildcats improved from No. 20 last week to No. 19 in this week's poll, running ACU's streak of consecutive poll appearances to 80 straight weeks. The last time ACU failed to appear in the AFCA top 25 was Sept. 19, 2006.
ACU was on the brink of both falling out of the poll and losing a game last Saturday, trailing Tarleton State 20-10 at halftime after another sluggish offensive performance. But the Wildcat rallied to outscored Tarleton 24-11 in the second half and pull out a 34-31 win.
Midwestern State also improved one spot in this week's poll, moving from No. 16 to No. 15 after last Thursday's 65-14 whipping of winless Texas A&M-Commerce. West Texas A&M also moved into the top 25 at No. 25 after dropping previous No. 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville, 40-10. The Javelinas fell all the way out of the top 25 with the loss.
Defending national champion Pittsburg State (Kan.) still sits at No. 1 after a 52-9 win over Southwest Baptist (Mo.). Minnesota-Duluth, Colorado State-Pueblo, Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Winston-Salem State (N.C.) round out the top five.
The next five is led by California (Pa.) at No. 6, followed by Missouri Western State, New Haven (Conn.), Washburn (Kan.) and Humboldt State (Calif.). Other teams in ACU's region (Super Region IV) who appear in the poll are CSU-Pueblo (No. 3), Grand Valley State (No. 4), Ashland (No. 17), Colorado School of Mines (No. 18), Saginaw Valley State (No. 20) and Wayne State (No. 21).
