Dallas Baptist Defeats #7 ACU, 2-0, In Season Opener

DALLAS, Texas - Defending South Central Region champions and seventh-ranked Abilene Christian suffered a 2-0 loss Thursday night at Dallas Baptist in the season-opener for both teams.

The Patriots (1-0) placed 11 of 19 shots on frame and received goals from Lindsey Eccles and Danielle Presley in the third and 63rd minutes. Ashley Cox and Lea Sedwick were credited with the assists.

DBU goalkeeper Kerry Edwards was forced to stop just two shots as her defense limited the Wildcats (0-1) to five, including one in the second half.

ACU senior goalkeeper Arielle Moncure made a career-high nine saves in her first start since 2010.

The loss was ACU's first during the regular season since Sept. 26 of 2010 and first against Patriots in close to four years. The Wildcats, however, still lead the all-time series 5-2.

Tonight's defeat also marked the Wildcats first Opening Day setback since 2008's lid-lifter at Missouri Southern.

ACU returns home to the Wildcat Soccer Complex Sunday for a 3 p.m. match against Our Lady of the Lake.
