ABILENE - Abilene Christian tennis players Hans Hach and Micah Hermsdorf Friday were named First Team Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District VI by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the at-large sports category.
As first team honorees, Hach and Hermsdorf will now have their names forwarded onto the Academic All-America ballot along with a dozen honorees from each of the eight districts. The Capitol One DII Academic All-America at-large team will be unveiled June 6.
A management major from Culiacan, Mexico, Hach recently completed an outstanding sophomore season in which he finished with a 24-4 record at No. 1 singles and a No. 6 national ranking. He also posted a 27-1 mark in doubles and comprised half of the nation's fifth-ranked team with Nick Plum.
Hach is a two-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and earned All-America honors as a freshman last spring.
Hermsdorf, a sophomore majoring in advertising and public relations, also was part of nationally ranked duo with Hannah Kelley, and together they won 18 matches as well as the ITA/USTA South Central Region title last fall.
As a singles player, Hermsdorf competed almost exclusively at the No. 2 position where she recorded a mark of 16-2. She also went 5-2 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 3.
Hermsdorf entered the NCAA postseason ranked 37th in singles and 11th in doubles. Additional honors for the Spring, Texas, native this season included spots on the All-Lone Star Conference singles and doubles teams and the title of Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Academic Player of the Year.
Eliglible sports for the at-large program include bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches.
