Wildcats Hach and Mongin Named Lone Star Conference's Players of the Week

ABILENE - The Lone Star Conference's first weekly awards of the 2012 spring season Thursday were presented to Abilene Christian's top-line players Hans Hach and Julia Mongin in recognition of last weekend's fine performances.
Hach, who is ranked sixth among all NCAA DII players by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, went 2-0 in singles pitted against opponents from #28 Incarnate Word and #15 Texas A&M. Competing at the No. 1 position, Hach defeated UIW's Carlos Olvera, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, and then in College Station, knocked off the Aggies' Collin Hoover, rallying from a set down to win, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10.
The victories extended Hach's winning streak to five and lifted his overall season record to 10-2.
In her first weekend back since returning from an illness, Mongin - DII's third-ranked singles player - posted a combined 6-0 record as a singles and doubles player during ACU's victories over Incarnate Word (9-0), No. 20 Tarleton State (8-1), and No. 10 Rollins (9-0).
Mongin began her weekend at the No. 2 line, where she defeated UIW's Maggae Doney, 6-4, 6-1. She then moved up to the No. 1 position, where she beat Tarleton's Alicia Perez, 6-1, 6-4, and Rollins' 22nd-ranked singles player Lisa Loft, 6-0, 6-1.
Mongin's victories raised her season record to 6-1.
In doubles, Mongin and her twin sister, Laura, competed at the No. 2 spot and beat UIW's Andi Bothe and Casey Bulls, 8-3, and later the Rollins' tandem of Loft and Kayli Ragsdale, 9-8 (4). In between she paired up with Hannah Kelley for the first time this season and together they beat Tarleton's Melanie Barnes and Karla Martinez-Hamd, 9-7.
Mongin is now 7-1 as a doubles player this season, including 3-0 with her sister.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when they play host to nationally ranked St. Edward's for a men's/women's doubleheader at the Teague Events Center.
