STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The No. 24 Abilene Christian softball team exploded for 13 hits, including two home runs by Kimberly Briggs, en route to a 7-2 win Saturday at Tarleton State.
The victory snapped ACU's two-game losing streak and improved its season and Lone Star Conference marks to 18-6 and 4-4. The TexAnns dropped to 23-9 overall and 8-1 vs. the league.
Briggs' home runs were her fifth and sixth of the season. Courtney Flanary also went yard for the third time this year, hitting a solo shot as part of ACU's four-run seventh.
Briggs first took Tarleton starter Samantha Swanda deep in the fourth, smashing a shot to left that gave ACU a 2-0 lead. The junior struck again in the seventh, this time off reliever Randi Fentress, to put the game out of reach at 5-0.
Briggs finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBI.
Wildcats Sara Vaughn and Lyndi Smith also drove in a run as each went 2 for 4.
Wildcat starter Peyton Mosley (6-4), meanwhile, tamed the TexAnns over the first six innings before they scored two unearned runs in the seventh. Mosley scattered just three hits, left eight runners stranded, and struck out six, including Swanda to end the game.
The Wildcats return to action Wednesday at St. Mary's for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
