KINGSVILLE – Texas A&M-Kingsville outscored ACU 26-8 over a 12-minute span of the second half Saturday afternoon as the Javelinas took a 72-59 win over the Wildcats in a Lone Star Conference men's basketball game at Hampton Inn Court.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 6-8 overall and 0-6 in the LSC, while the Javelinas improve to 8-7 and 3-4. ACU – which has lost 30 of its last 32 LSC games dating back to the start of the 2009-10 season – will be back in action Wednesday night at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Saturday's game against Kingsville was tied 38-38 early in the second half when the Javelinas went on the game-changing 26-8 spurt over a span of 11 minutes, 30 seconds to turn a close game into a blowout.
The run started at the 16:22 mark when Robert Williams hit a pair of free throws to give Kingsville a 40-38 lead. The run ended with 4:55 left in the game when Marcus Ford dropped a dunk on the Wildcats to make 66-46.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by
Dosh Simms, who had 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, while
Zach Williams had 11 points. ACU hit 11 of 13 free throws and 4 of 13 from 3-point range, but the Javelinas were 26 of 32 from the charity stripe and 10 of 22 from the 3-point arc.
