ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats equaled their win total for the entire 2010-11 season Thursday night with an 88-70 win over Paul Quinn College in non-conference men's college basketball action at Moody Coliseum.
The win pushes the Wildcats to 9-10 overall, while the Tigers fall to 4-14 with the loss. ACU has a chance to get back to .500 overall on Saturday when it hosts Arlington Baptist College in another non-conference game at 4 p.m. at Moody Coliseum. That follows a Lone Star Conference women's game between ACU and Texas Woman's that tips off at 2 p.m.
Thursday night's game turned midway through the first half after Paul Quinn was able to cut the Wildcats' lead to three points (22-19) on a 3-pointer by Deandre Hayden with 10:13 left in the half.
But ACU went on a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to push the lead back to 16 points at 37-21 with 5:31 left in the half.
Marc Little had five points in the run, while
Dosh Simms added four. Simms had his best outing of the season with 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals in 24 minutes.
ACU's lead would not fall below 14 points the rest of the night and would grow to as many as 28 points with 10 minutes left in the game after
Armani Williams buried a 3-pointer to make it 74-46.
Zach Williams led all scorers with 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting, while
Eric Kibi finished with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Kendall Durant had 13 points, two assists and two steals and was 7 for 7 from the free throw line, leading an ACU team that was 16 for 18 from the free throw line.
