PORTALES, N.M. – The ACU Wildcats shot just 29 percent from the field and committed 24 turnovers Saturday night as they dropped their third straight game with a 68-59 loss to Eastern New Mexico in Lone Star Conference men's basketball action at Greyhound Coliseum.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the LSC, while the Greyhounds improve to 9-3 and 2-2. The Wildcats will be on the road Monday to take on Midwestern State in another LSC game at 8 p.m. in Wichita Falls.
The Wildcats scored just 18 points in the first half and trailed 21-18 at the break. Things didn't get much better for the Wildcats in the second half as they couldn't close the Greyhounds' lead to smaller than four points.
ACU finished the game just 17 of 60 from the field, including a meager 6 of 22 from 3-point range (27 percent). The Wildcats were also plagued by poor free throw shooting (17 of 28 for 61 percent) and those 24 turnovers.
Zach Williams led the Wildcats with 16 points (6 of 18 shooting), while
Antonio Bell and
Kendall Durant had 13 points apiece.
With the loss to ENMU, ACU has dropped its last 10 straight LSC games dating back to the 2010-11 season. ACU's last conference win was a 74-71 overtime win at Angelo State on Feb. 5, 2011.
After going 1-11 in 2009-10 and 1-13 in 2010-11, the Wildcats' 0-3 start this year means they are now 2-27 in LSC games dating back to the start of the 2009-10 season.
