ACU back in action at UTPB

ODESSA – The ACU men's basketball team returns to action this weekend at the Chick-Fil-A Classic hosted by Texas-Permian Basin at the Falcon Dome.

The Wildcats are 2-0 under first-year head coach Joe Golding after a pair of solid wins last weekend at the Whitten Inn Tipoff Classic at Moody Coliseum.  The Wildcats knocked off Truman State, 70-68, last Friday and then beat East Central, 89-72, last Saturday.

ACU will be back in action Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Texas-Permian Basin before wrapping up play in the classic at 2 p.m. Saturday against Texas A&M International.

With a win Friday night, the Wildcats will be 3-0 to start the season for the fourth time since 2006-07.  With two wins, ACU will be 4-0 for the first time since 2007-08.

The Wildcats are led by the backcourt shooting guard duo of Armany Williams (15.0 points per game) and Kendall Durant (11.0 ppg).  Backup point guard Antonio Bell is also averaging 11.0 ppg.

The Falcons of UTPB are 2-1 on the season and have hit 31 3-pointers in their first three games of the season.  UTPB is led by Elijah Jordan (16.7 ppg), Mike Akins (12.0 ppg), Madison Turner (10.7 ppg) and Brandon Harrison (10.7 ppg).  The Falcons have been out-rebounded 119-82 in their first three games of the season.

The Dustdevils of A&M International are the defending Heartland Conference champions and return 12 players from that team, including eight seniors.  However, they're off to a 1-2 start with a season-opening win over Incarnate Word backed up by back-to-back losses against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Dustdevils are led by Evan Mattheson (13.5 ppg) and Ryan McLucas (10.0 ppg).
